The officer testified in Lucas County Common Pleas Court Thursday on the fourth day of his criminal trial. A part-time police officer for the More.. village, Officer White is charged with felonious assault with a gun specification for the May 23, 2009, shooting of Michael McCloskey, Jr.

If convicted, he faces up to 11 years in prison.

Officer White testified that he had been following two motorcyclists westbound on Indian Road at about 2:15 a.m. when he said he noticed several traffic violations. He said he initiated a stop after the two men rode off from a stop at a high rate of speed.

Labeling the situation as a “high risk vehicle stop,” Officer White testified that it would be “unusual” for someone to turn around when he shouted a command to them and so he believed Mr. McCloskey was reaching for a weapon.

“It appeared as if he was reaching for a weapon,” he said. “I feared for my life so I fired one shot.”

Officer White is the last of the defense witnesses to testify. He acknowledged during questioning from Assistant County Prosecutor Jeff Lingo that he would not know whether Mr. McCloskey knew an officer was behind him or whether he heard Officer White’s command.

Officer White is accused of shooting Mr. McCloskey once in the back, severing his spine. The incident was recorded on the dashboard camera in the officer’s patrol car.

The 14-minute video was played for the jury of nine women and three men.

In response to the case presented by the defense, assistant prosecutors called a rebuttal witness to testify as an expert. W. Ken Katsaris, a law enforcement consultant from Florida, testified about what he saw in the video recording of the incident.

In law enforcement for 48 years, Mr. Katsaris said that he only saw one traffic violation on the video ˆ when the motorcyclists sped up just prior to Officer White activating his lights and sirens. He also testified that he saw no indicators throughout the preceding moments that would “cause concern to an officer.”

Mr. Katsaris testified that after Mr. McCloskey stopped his motorcycle, Officer White violated protocol by not turning off his siren so that the motorist could hear. He also testified that the movement Mr. McCloskey made to turn around was not “targeting” the officer ˆ as was testified by defense witnesses ˆ but an obvious “inquiry glance” made to determine what was going on.

Alex Jones first put out a video warning about the potential of Machete to kickstart a race war after he was warned by two Hispanic members of Robert Rodriguez production crew. Last week, an Internet-hyped Illegal trailer for the film revealed many politicized aspects added to the already violence-laced film premise of a pissed off Mexican who wipes out his American enemies with a machete. The exploitation film was first spoofed in Rodriguez & Tarantinos Grindhouse before it was fully developed as a feature.

Now that production for Machete is wrapping up in Austin, it is clear that its racially driven plot plays upon thin stereotypes, pejorative cross-culture terms and exacerbated divisions between immigrants and white people.

The film is dangerous because it glorifies Machete as a hero, invoking his fictional racial struggle with clear parallels to current events and headlines ripped from topical news. We have already seen episodes of violent attacks, declaration of violent intent and demonstrable anger over attempts as regulation, such as Arizonas recent controversial legislation.

Further, the script seeks to build a cult icon in Machete, who Rodriguez plans to expand into sequel enterprises. By the end, the vicious revenge killer is cast in the holy light of a martyr; his likeness is placed on religious candles as the Virgin Mary or Jesus Christ would be. Vulnerable illegal immigrants, seeking to evade crude Militia Men characters as they cross the border, pray to Machete for protection, and the hopes they he will wipe out their enemies. Machete becomes a folk hero of sorts, like a Father Hidalgo, and it carries over into the traditional use of the machete as a symbol of peasant uprisings. Thus, he becomes a light to all those who seek to defeat their oppressors (by whatever means necessary, if the film is any indicator).

Religious inculcation is further induced by associating the Catholic church with Machetes revenge plot—who is set-up for the assassination of an anti-immigration Texas Senator, who seeks to portray illegals as a terroristic group seeking violence.

This Senator utilizes a false-flag scenario to cover his own reputation and associate with extremist militia groups, one of which is known as Freedom Force, the same name as the pro-sovereignty, anti-globalization, anti-Federal Reserve patriot group founded by G. Edward Griffin. It is these elements of Machete which seem more akin to the recent media attacks by the Southern Poverty Law Center and Anti-Defamation League than they do to good movie plot conventions.

Protests get even more out of hand as police begin attacking the students.

At approximately 5 am on Friday, November 20th, students at UC Berkeley took over a campus building (Wheeler Hall), barricading themselves inside to protest the 32 percent increase in student fees and recent custodial lay-offs. Police soon arrived to close off the building and surrounding area.

The crowds of protesters you see in this video surrounding the building are joining the protest against the fee hikes and custodial layoffs as well as demanding amnesty for any student protestors facing arrest inside.

Later that evening after about a 12 hour stand off, the students inside were released in intervals and cited only for trespassing. The released students were met with cheer and applause by the outside protestors.

The clashes between police and student protestors like the one in this video occurred throughout the day and night, outside multiple sections of the building.
